Waiver, Code of Conduct and Intern Agreement

Please read the following Nourish waiver and select the box marked I agree.
By selecting I agree, you are legally signing this waiver.

As a condition precedent to participating in any Nourish International program (the “Program”), each prospective participant must execute and remit to Nourish International an executed copy of this waiver and release (this “Release”).

In consideration for receiving permission from Nourish International to participate in the Program, I hereby irrevocably and unconditionally release and forever discharge, waive any right I may have against, covenant not to sue, and agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Nourish International and each of its representatives, officers, agents, directors, interns, contractors, employees, and assigns (the “Releasees”) from and against (as applicable) any and all claims, liabilities, demands, charges, defenses, debts, actions or causes of action, damages, sums, obligations, injuries (including death), loss of services, pain and suffering, compensation, attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses of suit, and all other liabilities whatsoever (collectively, the  “Claims”), which I had, now have, or may have, whether at law, in equity, or both, whether known or unknown, suspected or unsuspected, whether in existence or arising hereafter, out of or related to any matter, cause, or event, under any theory, claim, or charge arising under any international, federal, state, local or common law, that arises from or is related to my participation in the Program, my travel in connection with the Program, or the premises owned or leased by Releasees, including, but not limited to, Claims resulting from the sole, joint, or concurrent negligence, statutory fault, or strict liability of any of the Releasees.  I expressly intend and agree that this Release shall bind myself, my executors, heirs, parents, administrators, assigns, designees, and anyone claiming through, by, or under me.

I am fully aware that there are inherent risks to myself and others associated with my participation in the Program.  Notwithstanding such risks, I choose voluntarily to participate in the Program with full knowledge that the Program or any part thereof may be hazardous to me and to my property.  I acknowledge that I may be required to participate in physically strenuous activities during the Program, and I am not aware of any medical reason why I should not participate in the Program.  I agree that I have carefully identified, reviewed, and considered the risks of travel to my destination and participation in the Program, including by reading the most recent U.S. State Department, Centers for Disease Control, and World Health Organization Travel Warnings.  Further, I understand that conditions in my destination may change rapidly and agree to stay informed of current events on a frequent basis by obtaining updated security and health information from the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate and U.S. State Department, Centers for Disease Control, and World Health Organization websites.   I choose to participate in the Program at my sole risk.

I understand that the Releasees may not maintain any insurance policy covering any circumstance that may arise from my participation in the Program.  As such, I am aware that I should maintain adequate personal insurance coverage.  I recognize that prior to traveling in connection with the Program, I am required to secure travel insurance through Nourish International, and I agree to obtain such insurance prior to my participation in the Program.  I warrant that I carry my own health insurance, which is appropriate for travel.

I hereby authorize Nourish International to disclose to any person purporting to be my parent any and all information regarding my participation in the Program and release Nourish International from any liability which may arise therefrom.

By signing this Release, I agree and represent that I have read, understood, and voluntarily agree to each of the terms and conditions set forth in this Release.  I sign this Release voluntarily as my own free act and deed.  None of the Releasees have made, and I have not relied upon, any representations, warranties, assurances, guarantees, statements, or inducements with respect to the Program.  I understand that I can choose not to sign this Release and will avoid its terms and conditions by choosing not to participate in the Program.  I execute this Release in exchange for full, adequate, and complete consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which I acknowledge; and I intend to be bound by its terms, at all times.

By selecting I agree, you are legally signing this Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct

The Nourish International Project Team Member Code of Conduct has been created to account for several of the inherent risks and moral concerns involved in international development, as well as to outline the expected behavior of all participating in a Nourish project.  As a representative of Nourish abroad, the team member must accept and abide by all Nourish’s core principles and rules.

By signing this document, you thereby affirm your understanding of and agree to abide by the following requirements:

Conduct

The following information details the basic guidelines for behavior for those traveling as a Nourish representative.  Failure to abide by these guidelines is unacceptable, and will result in either a written warning or the termination of the student from the project.  While the following list comprises a set of guidelines, it is not to be considered all-inclusive of the conduct expected of Nourish team members.

  • Treat your fellow team members and project leader with respect
  • Report any issues or concerns to the project leader.  If you are uncomfortable doing so, feel free to contact the National Office at chapters@nourish.org
  • Adhere to all safety recommendations made by Nourish International and the Partner organization

  • Professional dishonesty: falsification of research, work records, accounting, applications, plagiarism, or forgery
  • Violence, defined as causing or threatening to cause harm to others
  • Vandalism or intentional damaging of property of other students, the host community, residential units, or project facilities
  • Possession or use of weapons including but not limited to: firearms, fireworks, or other explosives

Sanctions

The following violations may result in immediate termination of participation for the offender.

  • Violation of any local or international laws
  • Endangering the safety or life of yourself or others, either intentionally or through negligent action

The project leader has authority to ask a project participant to leave the project site if they feel a participant’s actions warrant it.  For all other violations, the 1st offense will result in a verbal warning, and the 2nd offense will result in a project participant being asked to exit the project site.
