2024-2025 Arrigo O. Rogers Memorial Scholarship 
Application 

Student Information

Established in 2003 by the Educational Opportunity Fund Professional Organization of New Jersey, the Arrigo O. Rogers Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of a distinguished EOF program graduate and exceptional leader by recognizing students who embody similar qualities of leadership and service. This scholarship is awarded to EOF program students with remarkable leadership abilities and a strong commitment to serving others. Recipients are those who have actively engaged in leadership roles within their student communities or have shown dedication to community service and civic engagement.

AWARD PRESENTATION AND RECOGNITION

Recipients will be announced at the EOF Professional Association’s Annual Fall Conference, held on November 8, 2024 at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Awardees will receive either a $500 or $1000 scholarship, depending on their enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year institution, and will be invited to participate in this in-person event.

Award recipients must be enrolled in an EOF Program at a school in New Jersey for the semester or term following the qualification.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

  1. You must be an enrolled undergraduate student in the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program                                     
  2. You must have at least a 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
  3. You must have completed a minimum of 24 degree credits (excludes developmental/remedial courses)
  4. You must be in good program standing with currently enrolled EOF Program
  5. You must have established a record of service in campus leadership or community service activities with evidence of attention given to academic and career endeavors
  6. You must have not received the Arrigo O. Rogers Scholarship in a previous year

Special Note for Graduating Students

Graduating students earning a bachelor’s degree at the end of the Fall 24 semester (January 2025 Grads) are NOT eligible for this award.

Graduating students with an associate’s degree at the end of the Fall 24 semester (January 2025 Grads) who will be enrolled at a four-year college/university in New Jersey for the Spring 2025 semester ARE eligible.

How to Apply

Only candidates who have submitted the following will be considered:

1. The online application is due by September 26, 2024, at 11:59 pm and requires students to provide:

    1. An Unofficial Transcript- pdf upload
    2. The Student Leadership Essay- highlighting the leadership qualities that make you a good candidate for this scholarship-pdf upload
    3. Recommendation Letter from a Professional whose office or organization was significantly impacted by your leadership or service efforts. You must provide your recommender with the link to submit the recommendation letter.  All recommendations must be submitted by October 4, 2024, at 11:59 pm to be considered

 

Recipients of this scholarship must be enrolled for the Fall 2024 semester and in good standing with their EOF Program.  Recipients will also be asked to provide a photo and the release of their name, image, and college.

By submitting this application, you consent to our enrollment and standing status request from your prospective EOF Counselor or Program Director. Finalists will be vetted for this information to determine who will receive this scholarship. You are also consenting to the release of information on the EOFPANJ website.

Prompt - True leadership and meaningful community service were the guiding principles of Arrigo O. Rogers’ life and legacy. As part of your application, we invite you to share your journey in leadership or community service. This is a chance to reflect on the impact you’ve made, the lessons you’ve learned, and how these experiences have shaped your values and career aspirations. Your essay should address all the questions below.

a) What aspects of your background, experiences, and personal qualities make you uniquely qualified for this scholarship? What sets you apart from other applicants?

b) Reflect on the transformative impact of your leadership roles or community service experiences on your personal development. How have these experiences challenged you, taught you new skills, or deepened your understanding of others? 

c) Arrigo O. Rogers was renowned for his dedication to serving others and exemplary leadership. How does your commitment to helping others mirror these values?

 


EOF Program Verification Consent

To be eligible to receive this scholarship you must be in good standing with your EOF Program and currently enrolled with intended plans for enrollment for the Spring 2025 semester. 
 
By completing this section, you are giving the scholarship committee consent to request this information from your EOF Counselor or EOF Program Director to determine eligibility. Finalists will be vetted for this information.

Recommendation

The Scholarship Committee requires:
 
1) The name and e-mail address of the recommender from a professional whose office or organization was significantly impacted by your leadership or service efforts. This recommender should have known and worked with the student for at least a year and be willing to write about the student's leadership, commitment to service, and personal characteristics as related to the legacy of Arrigo O. Rogers.
